ALLOTMENTS UPDATE
Following the public consultation exercise the Council have now approved an Open Space Strategy Plan for the city which includes revised proposals for the suggested allotment sites.
For our locality it has been decided that any immediate provision of allotment sites will be at Silverknowes Farmland. The numbers have yet to be agreed and we understand will be subject to local consultation. It remains the DMSA position, based on our survey of local opinion, that a development of the order of 50 to 100 plots would be appropriate and acceptable.
The site at Davidson's Mains Park will not be developed for the present but has been included on a list of locations suitable for future use. We have been assured nothing would happen for at least five years but the DMSA remains opposed to the use of the Park for allotments.
Following the consultation it has been accepted that the site at Lauriston Castle is not suitable or appropriate for use as allotments and we welcome that decision.
The full report on The Open Space Strategy was approved at the Policy and Strategy Committee on 28th September and can be viewed on the Council Website.
